For those of you who were not able to make the opening, you are welcome to join me at Pulp Art at the Carnegie Art Center this Saturday, 1/19/12 at 1pm where I will be to talk about my work and and what I know about other’s in the exhibition. It is an exciting exhibition with every gallery devoted to art expressed through the use of paper.
My figurative handmade paper and fabric collages are in the Beverly Semmens Gallery on the 2nd floor and I have a very fun installation piece on the landing next to the gallery featuring 400 (4″ x 6″) different novelty papers that I have made over the past 28 years of making paper. Whenever I would cut up an 18″ x 24″ sheet of paper to make my notecards I would save one 4″ x 6″ piece for my archives. There are still more at my studio but this will give you an idea of the possibilities of making paper by hand.
My figurative images are inspired by many things- the loss of a sister, dear friends, careers of circus performers, migrant workers, rainbow over NYC after hurricane Sandy, and Emilie whose father’s story of how she would light up the room touched many hearts. I will talk about the stories I was thinking about when making these collages.
Share this, bring a friend, hope to see you there.
